Tom said that Donna Brazile said that Bush is smart.

Tom's assumption (and your strange agreement) that all liberals must agree with or defend this position is just a rhetorical scam.

It should be obvious to anyone that candidates do not run their campaigns. [If they did, they likely would not be elected. If they were really qualified to run one of these nasty things and win it, then they probably are unqualified to be president (in my opinion).]

It should be obvious that the president does not control everything that the White House does. Heck, anyone who has seen the footage of Bush getting the 9/11 news should realize that he did not even control his immediate response to that - his advisors told him to relax for a while, and he did.
