About on a par with trickle down economics or with the idea that the best way to stimulate an economy is to give most of the money to people who can spend it anywhere in the world. I believe in public education and refuse to send my kids to private school as is popular in the south. I vote for tax increases to improve public shools. Yet this free and valuable public service is spurned by many who need it the most. Straight talk on this issue by people like Bill Cosby is needed far more than more handouts from working people who never had slaves or even ancestors with slaves to those that don't take advantage of one of the great virtues of this country.

We have poverty stricken immigrants with different skin colors and funny names who can't speak English whose children rise to middle class in one generation yet we are supposed to believe that slavery's impact is still being felt as an economic force 7 generations after the fact? Prejudice is still an issue, but it is an obstacle that many have overcome with nothimg much more than a desire to do so.

There's a big difference between handing out fish and teaching someone to fish.
