It's not very often that someone whose research we're discussing pops in to comment -- unless they happen to be regulars here already, which you are enthusiastically invited to become.

And you probably can understand from the discussion that most of us are SF fans, and there are some writers among us, too . . . which explains why we look beyond the science to the motivation, human or otherwise.

If nothing else, you and your colleague have given us a serious scenario to chew on. The science "works", the technology required is plausible, and not that far removed (in future time) from possibility. And of course, your point is well made: a particular kind of message is more efficiently transmitted as a physical object.
