Well it does raise an important consideration.
People - even scientists - often confuse cause with effect. Or they do not realize that both variables are caused by some third variable that was not included in the study. Or some other even more complicated arrangement. Generally it is very tricky to design an experiment that not only establishes correlation but also proves a causal relationship.
