Larry, not sure what Marines you've come into contact with in life but my experience has been that, although they are put into positions to serve the country honorably and with sacrifice much more than the average citizen, that group generally contains some very strange and scary people. I assign no higher credibility to any person because of their military service or lack of it including both Republicans and Democrats. Service in the Armed Forces does not say a damned thing about a person's character. There are good and bad in all groups and I resent anyone making blanket statements about a person's moral integrity simply because they are an old Marine.

You would jump my ass in a heartbeat if I said that him being an ex-Marine guaranteed the man to be a bloodthirsty alcoholic even though the Armed Services probably has a disproportionate number of it's members that fit those categories.

In most civilized countries uncontrolled anger is considered a character flaw, not something to be revered.
