re: Roads? NGOs have jeeps these days.

"Doctors Without Borders, which functions under extreme conditions, withdrew because it cited the violence and the inability of the current government to protect its workers.

That's quite something for an organization that works in war zones."

Well, this isn't a normal war- contrary to what the news says we are fighting terrorists- not "insurgents" or "rebels". These terrorists are not soldiers in the normal sense- the only "side" in which these terrorists are on is themselves- a network of terrorist who view anyone outside the network as infidels [not worthy of living & a ticket to heaven if you kill them]. Their *tactics* is to attack a select group which could be US miltary, westerners, other Muslims, or whoever the leader of their cell decides is best to kill first. The long term "plan" is to kill everyone who isn't in their cult.
These guys make the nazis seem overly moral. They make a murderous Mob seem principled. Serial murders as too selective. Etc.
These people see your death as the path to Heaven. They are about as concern about peoples lives as one would concerned about the lives of termites in a house being tented. Being a "good guy" doesn't protect you in any way, though they are interested in PR [but if you don't fit into their particular PR program [which can change] your "goodness" can make you a prime target].
Goodness and certainly not "objective"/"neutrality" does not spare you from their wrath- you are only protected if you are on their side [which requires you join them in the killing infidels].

As far as Jeeps. You need Jeeps to travel on these roads. Jeeps are not going to increase your speed- but they are generally tougher, so besides not getting stuck, your vehicle is less likely to fall apart due to driving hundreds of miles on very rough road at fairly high speeds [over 20 mph]. And as far as off road driving, it would generally be far worse than driving on these lousy roads.
