The tendency of the left to grab a meme and run with it regardless of its accuracy is becoming ridiculous. It would be at least more understandable if these things came out of the internet, but there have been several examples just in the past week of the Associated Press and others in the mainstream media getting a story completely wrong, but broadcasting it quickly because it fit the agenda. The "booing" at Bush's speech. The resurrection of the grocery scanner story. A story on Arnold Schwartzenegger "lies" that turned out to be a lie itself. Others as well.
On the other hand, watching Democrats hit a brick wall at a measurable fraction of lightspeed when a story goes sour is always entertaining.
Oddly, media errors never seem to go in favor of Bush or the Republicans.
For the record, I agree that a simple factual correction on this thread would have been enough to make the point without driving it into the ground. It could have been an honest error. The person who wrote the original article omitted any context or details for the death, and it is difficult not to believe that it was the author's deliberate intent that people jump to exactly the erroneous conclusion that John did.
