Bell writes well but he has a chip on his shoulder

The postscript on his articles almost sums it up:

"Jeffrey F. Bell is a retired space scientist and recovering pro-space activist."

Many of us who got sucked into the aerospace profession are very angry that we were never allowed to fulfill our dreams and achieve our full potential. Consequently many people have left the profession feeling quite bitter about it. Only a tiny fraction of what could have been achieved in Space Exploration has actually been cut into metal. If you have any doubts, just pick up some copies of "Aviation Week" or AIAA related publications that were made in the late 1950s and early 1960s. There were lots of great ideas back then. Most of those ideas are still good today. This is a very big problem for the modern aerospace engineer. I don't need to innovate. Almost any clever idea that I can come up with was thought about before 1965 and published in ACTA Astronautica or by the British Interplanetary Society. All the "low fruit" was picked clean while I was still a child. All these great ideas were invented, thought about, discussed, argued over, improved upon, published, re-published and then totally forgotten about. What's worse, much of the really good stuff was originally classified. Because it's expensive to keep classified documents, much of this old stuff was simply shredded before it was declassified. Billions of dollars were wasted this way. It's a frustration.....
