Donald seems like a caring person to me. It would seem out of character that he would wish ill will on the the Iraqi people simply to see GWB embarassed. Now as far as wishing democracy on them, that becomes more complicated. I'm not so sure that Islamic culture and democracy truly mix well, at least in the present form of Islam. Maybe we should all instead simply wish the Iraqi people peace, economic stability, and a bit of enlightenment. Hopefully that happens as a consequence of our sacrifice but also as a natural step of a society's evolution. I believe the latter to be more long-lasting and less fragile.
I happen to be one of those that wishes we didn't go into Iraq as well and not because I believed Saddam any less of a thug than you do. My reasons were simply because I felt that the long-term effects would be worse than the present conditions and that the stated goals were wrong and did not fit our national priorities. I also have listened to numerous Mideast experts and, to a man, they all believed firmly that an invasion of Iraq would be a destabilizing event and uncontrollable.
