If we could keep alcohol out of the hands of the 15%, I would agree.

But we can't, and we don't, and we aren't.

Binge drinking and secret drinking only exacerbates alcoholism, because it masks these behaviors as things that everyone does. It makes secret drinking the norm rather than an odd behavior, the better to teach the skill and stealth involved, and it makes reporting alcohol abuse by a friend into a legal fight rather than a health concern.

Peanut allergies cause anaphalectic shock in the very sensitive, which can result in death by asphyxiation in a matter of minutes. One can understand why this would be of concern on an airplane midflight, and also in public schools, where there are a large number of underage children, some of whom may not be alert to their own danger. This danger is not the same as the danger posed to potential addicts by exposure to alcohol.

The issue of "underage drinking" is not one of dispensing beer at high school sporting events. It's of people who have otherwise reached the age of majority having a restriction put upon this one prerogative of adulthood, during probably the last period in which an educational organization may have some influence over how they exercise that option.
