Dan Rather has almost certainly been forced to recant by the CBS suits. Viacom's stock value took a slight hit along with CBS' ratings. It's clear the forgeries came from Bill Burkett, who is a no account screwball. Pulling Dan Rather's leash was a no-brainer for the suits. If there had been a connection to Kerry's campaign then this story might have had legs. However it is clear that Kerry's people had sense enough to distance themselves (they probably recognized the forgery immediately). After the smoke clears, Dan Rather will quietly go into retirement. From here on, forged documents are no longer an option for Kerry or the media stooges (this helps Bush since he is more vulnerable to fraud). The important consequence of this is the Main Stream Media took a serious hit while the blogosphere came out as champions. This was a victory for democracy.
