re: If America were Iraq, What would it be Like?

"What would America look like if it were in Iraq's current situation? The population of the US is over 11 times that of Iraq, so a lot of statistics would have to be multiplied by that number.

Thus, violence killed 300 Iraqis last week, the equivalent proportionately of 3,300 Americans. What if 3,300 Americans had died in car bombings, grenade and rocket attacks, machine gun spray, and aerial bombardment in the last week? That is a number greater than the deaths on September 11, and if America were Iraq, it would be an ongoing, weekly or monthly toll. "

Well if we had 3,300 die from "car bombings, grenade and rocket attacks", etc, then this would be about 4 times the amount of death due to automobile accidents that occur in America every year. It might about the same carnage if cars didn't have safety glass, air bags, and other safety features. Or the same amount of carnage if we did not act to prevent AIDs from spreading. Or it would the same amount of death if for some reason suicide rates increased by 5 fold.

Of course we would be deep trouble, unless there was a superpower dumping in billions (times 11) and deploying troops +100,000 times 11 to help to provide security to maintain stablity and prevent our whole country from slipping civil war, thereby have some *really* significant amounts of civilian losses- like 33,000 per week- or 1-2 million per year. And of course without this nonexistance superpower providing support, the resulting chaos, would cause Americans to leave the country- going into Canada and Mexico, throwing those countries into chaos.

There simply is no comparison because Iraq wasn't a superpower- both miltarily and economically. All you have to do is significantly weaken America and the rest to world goes to shit. [Hey, all you need to do is lower it's productity by say 10% and you got big problems {going back to 1970 productity would be more than 10%}.] Disease sweeps the world, and idiots end up with having nukes. Since there is no superpower other than American, you don't need 3,300 dying from "car bombings, grenade and rocket attacks", etc per week, having 330 deaths per week in America would probably be enough to kick off a global "great depression". The number of death from these attacks would be insignificant- it's the chaos it spreads. But then again it would very, very difficult for terrorist to be effective in America- an alerted public would defeat this kind of steady constant attack. The terrorist only "hope" is a few really big attacks- like successfully starting a plague or nuking a city.

In conclusion, in the big picture the deaths in Iraq from "car bombings, grenade and rocket attacks", etc is uttering insignificant in terms simply people getting killed- far more Iraqi could die from poor medical and health practices. The lousy governing [not even including the sadistic behavior of Saddam] was killing far more people.
And since the main affect of these attacks is to disrupt order, and since Iraq wasn't well organized it's affects aren't great. It's not as though Iraq had unemployment rate below 10% and the "trains ran on time".
