South Korea
Population: 48,598,175 (07/04)
Population in Seoul:10,276,968 (12/03) (5th largest city in world)
% of national population > 20%
Distance from NK: roughly 50 miles
Well I guess understanding that the likley loss of an Ally's major city containing over 20 % of its population in the event of active warfare is just an insignificant factor in what passes for your idea of strategy. Most military analysts concur that the massive number of NK troups along the DMZ could over run Seoul quickly if unleashed. They far outnumber US and SK troups. The only way to prevent it would be a preimptive strike on those forces with massive bombing raids by the US troups in the area.
In addition since NK already has nukes and missiles NK could destroy Seoul even if we took out their troups. The potential loss of life involved would make Iraq look like the panama invasion. Every military strategist interviewed by news stations knows the difference and have pointed out these facts many times. You to have missed this readily available information counter to your views. The point of the invasion of Iraq was to prevent them from reaching a similar threat level. Once a rogue nation has nukes the options for dealing with it become much more restricted.
