You keep seeing things as a black-and-white struggle between Left and Right, winners and losers.
Tragic mistake. And it limits options. Many situations are win-win, or lose-lose.
No matter what happens in Iraq, the US has lost everything of substantial importance. Lost in the "war against terrorism" by creating a base for terrorists, creating more terrorists, creating sympathy for terrorists, alienating traditional allies, and so on.
Lost lives, treasure, friends, respect, polarized the country, and weakened international structures which have been carefully built up for years.
Weakened international law, a hallmark of civilization, instead choosing to return to the law of the jungle.
On the other hand, Halliburton has made so much money even the Pentagon is upset.
Not everything is win - lose. Some things are just plain lose.
