Research budgets

The entire NIH budget, including a hell of a lot of things that are not pharmaceutical research, is about $27 billion. The private research budget of the pharmaceutical companies, about $33 billion in 2003, still exceeds this total.

Your original statement was that drug companies do very little research. I blew it out of the water. Deal with it.

And if we are going to pretend that figures put forward by those who have an interest in them are automatically false--something I don't agree with--that pretty much flattens your second reference, doesn't it? Or, to make it more simple, how can you discount figures from the pharmaceutical industry, and then cite figures from the NIH that make the NIH look absolutely essential to the development of new drugs? ;)
