A discussion of psychopathic personalities came up a while back.
I've noticed that damn few - if any - of the Great and Mighty who are caught out in sordid stuff (and not just sex) ever just succumb to guilt and remorse and confess on their own. They have to be hauled bodily out, and their noses ground into cold, hard evidence before they stop lying and decide to "repent."
It's almost as though they regret being caught more than anything else.
