If not the NRA, then some other organization that understands guns and represents gun owners.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation, maybe? They have industry ties, too, so maybe you don't want them either. I sure don't want the Cato Institute.
I drive by two gun stores on my way to and from work. (Well, three, actually, but I can't see the parking lot of one of them.) Usually, there are one or two customers in the afternoon/evening, and no one in the morning. Yesterday, the parking lots I could see were full both coming and going. I venture to suggest that this happened because people on the "wrong" side of discussions like the one that's been giving me indigestion here are anticipating that they will be shouted down, unrepresented, and so they're hoarding now. Not a good sign.
When my dad was terminally ill, he warned my mom not to make any major decisions about anything for a year, because it's not a good idea to make decisions while in a heightened emotional state. She laughed at him ("You won't be here to remind me."), but she took his advice to heart. It's good advice in public policy as well as in personal life. A year is too long to let this issue go, but really, the funerals need to be over first. Everyone needs to take a breath.

Well, somebody is going to have to speak for the gun owners.
