I lived in Westbury (near Bellaire) and went to Parker Elementary. I moved to Kingwood in 1978. I graduated from Kingwood in 1986. That year President Reagan gave us an award for being one of the top ten schools in the Nation. That same year, David Letterman has us number two (Under Beverly Hills High School) on his top ten snobbiest school list. Anyway, that is Kingwood High’s claim to fame- that and being the State Cross Country Champs for most of the 1990’s.
I know where Lamar High is. I ran in a track meet there in 1985. Did the mile and 2 mile race.
Houston was a lot smaller in the 1970’s. At the time we were the fifth largest city in the US with a population of around 1.5 million. Philadelphia was the number 4 city.
Now the city is huge. It has spread out to the suberbs and taking up most of Harris county. Our population nears 4 million (for the whole county). I liked it better when we where a smaller town. I have heard that in the 1960’s they would say Houston is the big city with the small town feel. I wish it was still that way. It is too crowded here. I need to move to San Antonio, and I hope to within the next couple of years.

- Going to have to go a long, long way to match the spectacular original.
