Why are we alone? We're not. We are getting as much help from the French as we did enforcing UN sanctions. ie they are fighting against us just as they did while Saddam was paying them big bribes. We're doing the most just as we have for most of the past century (as in Korea and GW1). In case it escaped you it's because we have the military means to do so and the rest of the world relies on us to carry the load even when they agree. We've been over this many times before. We don't get help from "the rest of the world" for the same reasons people have not joined us before (self interest). We do have token help from a lot of countries, but token help has generally been the norm not the exception. We had more help in GW1 than in most UN actions because many of those highly involved felt threatened by Saddam (Egypt, SA & other gulf states), not because of UN authority.
Bush stated clearly after 1441 passed that we did not need a resolution other than 1441 as did Powell. We tried to get one explicitly using the word war rather than "severest consequences" at Tony Blairs request. War opponants use the lack of explicit war wording in 1441 as an excuse to call the war illegal, but I have yet to hear anyone explain what consequences are more severe than war and explain what they think 1441 did authorize.
