"Interesting" in the Chinese sense

The Chinese curse: My you have an "interesting" life.

The Space Shuttles are old. There is no replacement Shuttle in the pipe line. The only way we can avoid another Columbia/Challenger accident is to retire the Shuttles. However if we retire the Shuttles then we abandon Reusable Launch Vehicle technology. If we're stuck with only Expendable Launch Vehicles then we're trapped in an economic dead end in terms of Space exploration and development.

We're heading towards checkmate and no one seems to care.
