Tonight I did a hard thing. I had to carry my parent's dog to be put to sleep. She was 15 years old and a part of the family the whole time. My parents couldn't bring themselves to do it so I said I would. My mom went with me, but I was the one who stayed with her as the vet administered the shot. I didn't think it would bother me like it has, but I looked into her eyes as she slipped away. She let out several labored gasps then her eyes dilated, within several seconds they turned from a dark brown to a hazy blue. I watched the life drain from her frail little body and a piece of my own soul went with her. A dear and beloved member of our family was gone. It's a curious thing to watch as something goes from an animate being to an inanimate object, and I will never forget the experience.
Pixie, you will be mourned and missed.
Lee, (May all dogs go to Heaven.)
A time to die.
