Eugenics mentality

The more I learn about genetics, the more I realize I, and the rest of science, don't know about how human genetics really works. We apparently have a lot fewer genes than people used to think, and it's beginning to look to me like the genome may be, given the randomness of evolution, an enormous kludge.

Instead of a special gene for one thing, and a different one for another, combinations of genes may do one thing in combination with other genes, and yet other things in combination with other genes.

Altering these combinations artificially in an organism as complicated as a human being are extremely unlikely to have predictable results.

Simple "cloning," if it ever works properly, would seem to avoid a lot of these problems by simply reproducing a "black box," but even that process seems to have unforeseen results. Cloned cats have different color patterns in their coats. There are health problems.

The "argument by design" proof of the existence of God doesn't hold up that well unless you assume God constructs nature like Han Solo constructed the Millennium Falcon. Think along the lines of lots of duct tape.

Speaking of eugenics, did you read the post above on the Scopes Trial?
