Without getting to deep into it...
..is everyone here ready to deny the role genetics plays in producing offspring?
As a proponent of science, I find it quite amazing that the political umbrella of Nazism has been successful in effectively stifling genetic research and understanding.
Let's look at that book again:
highest type of all, the caucasians, represented by the civilized white inhabitants of Europe and America
This previous statement is most obviously wrong. But this other statement is not:
Improvement of Man. — If the stock of domesticated animals can be improved, it is not unfair to ask if the health and vigor of the future generations of men and women on the earth might not be improved by applying to them the laws of selection.
Evolution is constantly adapting man to new environments. Here the key word is "improvement." Just what does improvement mean? Greater height? Longer lifespans? In Europe the Scandinavians are running away with the height where many reach 6'4 and 6'5 and don't even stand out as being particularly tall. The women are reaching 6 feet and above quite often as well. There can be little doubt that this is the result of two taller people coupling. It's not "God's gift" to these folks. It's a genetic pairing and a scientific result. In Japan, a closed society, has some of the oldest living people. I have little doubt this is also genetic related.
But what about the mental aspects? We have laws on the books of almost every state that prevent brothers and sisters from marrying. Why? Because it is genetic science that tells us 'feeblemindedness' and genetic deformity are the result. Logic dictates that if some couplings are obviously bad and detrimental to evolution, others are good. The PC nonsense that has surrounded this issue is astonishing. Many deny evolution for religious reasons, others for fear pursuing science because it may cause resumption of the abhorrent racism of the past.
The result: Science ends up the big loser.
Trying to defend the religionists by pointing out that evolution was taught in a bigoted manner is swell and fine but the religionists were quite bigoted as well. Their opposition lay not in the racist tracks whatsoever, but in the enitire concept of genetics and that man somehow controls his own evolution and can have emerged from "monkeys." The contradiction to the book of Genesis was obvious and thus a threat to the church and Christianity.
The GOP has now won, but it better get its act together. Folks like Thule (who replaced Daschle) reportedly discount evolution. If parts of the GOP now thinks its time to start an assault on evolution, it's sadly deluded and will lose the support of the moderates and the moderate conservatives who decided on the terror/defense issue.
