Not like John Kerry, the pro-abortion Catholic. Or Bill Clinton, who can leave a church carrying a Bible and commit adultery hours later. Or any number of politicians of either party who put on their religion like businessmen put on a tie to make the right impression. George Bush freaks people out because his religion appears to be the real thing. I've never heard anyone worry about Reverend Jesse Jackson creating a theocracy.
So you don't get elected in Matherville because you won't fake it. Their loss. Maybe someday it will be different.
It wasn't that long ago that people thought Kennedy could never be elected because he was a Catholic. To the best of my knowledge, the fact that Joseph Lieberman is Jewish never even came up during the election process. Imagine that fifty years ago.
