The Boy Scouts require that members affirm belief in God... or lie about it.
Government money doesn't go to organizations that actively discriminate against citizens on the basis of religion, which the BSA does. The BSA also doesn't recognize the Unitarian Universalist faith because of that church's stand on homosexuality.
If the military misses its scouting connection, there's always the Girl Scouts, who have no such requirement.
