I love Norman Rockwell. Honestly.
Do I pass?
Some things really are about what people say they are about, you know. There isn't always a hidden agenda.
This one is about the Separation Clause of the First Amendment. The BSA has gone out of its way to discriminate against people based on their religion. That is the sole basis of the ACLU's objection, and it's a sound one.
Let's put it another way. Suppose an organization that did not allow Christians to belong to it because they said so was given financially advantageous treatment by the US military and other government agencies. Does that violate the First?
Think about Norman Rockwell for a little while.
"The Problem We All Live With" by Norman Rockwell. Look story illustration, January 14, 1964.
I wonder if he'd approve of kicking a boy out of the Boy Scouts because he didn't believe in God and he didn't want to lie about it.

No.
The whole thread (20 posts)
- Another victory for the ACLU
- The Boy Scouts require that members affirm belief in God... or lie about it.
- And people keep thinking the ACLU is a neutral protector of civil rights.
- Those Boy Scouts are dangerous subversives. They should be arrested and sent to Siberia. What a load of crap! (n/t)
