U.S. to Expand Military Force in Iraq

WASHINGTON - With the insurgency still a threat to Iraq's planned elections, the U.S. force is about to expand to its highest level of the war _ even higher than the initial invading force in March 2003.

The force will grow from 138,000 today to about 150,000 by mid-January, the Pentagon said Wednesday.

I guess George Bush doesn't think 150,000 troops in active combat is a "major combat operation." With that kind of thinking, its no mystery why things are going so bad in Iraq. By the way the Bush death count now stands at 1,258 AMerican soldiers killed in Iraq.

Unfortunately this expansion of American military forces is necessary if we ever expect to succeed in Iraq. Unfortunately, Bush decided to, for all intents and purposes, a go it alone in Iraq and we're stuck putting American troops in harm's way instead of having a true international coalition.
