re: U.S. to Expand Military Force in Iraq

A boost in forces during the election has been expected for a long time. A similar boost was done in Afghanistan during their elections.

Unfortunately, Bush decided to, for all intents and purposes, a go it alone in Iraq and we're stuck putting American troops in harm's way instead of having a true international coalition.

I understand that the anti-war story is written in stone now, so there isn't much I can do to change that in some minds, but we went into Iraq with the approval, support, and in many cases military assistance, of forty-eight nations, including several major ones and a majority of NATO. But hey, keep up the "unilateral" lie. God knows enough people out there are stupid enough to buy it.

Nobody, including Kerry, while throwing the term "true international" around is willing to define that term too closely. I have submitted that "true international" is simply code for France and Germany,* and while I get a lot of crap for this, nobody else has come up with a better definition of "international" that at the same time somehow excludes all the nations currently in the coalition.

The hard truth is that if we had gone into Iraq with the full and enthusiastic support of the United Nations, almost all the soldiers over there would still be American ones. In Afghanistan, which is an "approved" war, at least by the moderate left, there are still over three times as many Americans than foreign troops from all other nations.

As I have proven over and over again, no reasonable alternatives to our current course have been proposed by the opposition, including Kerry during the election. A lot of people say we should have just left Saddam and his sons alone for the next few decades and it would have all just gone away. I doubt that.

When we finally win this one, then I suppose the Democrats will strut around saying how they would have done it faster, cheaper, and with no casualties and free beer for everyone. Blowing gas is what they're good at.

*Neither who would have put troops in Iraq even if it had been requested by Franklin Roosevelt, never mind John Kerry.
