Profits are being retained by upper management and shareholders, cutting out the workers. The result is obvious. As workers lose benefits, they turn to public assistance to provide them. As jobs move overseas, the people have to turn to public assistance.
And taxes aren't paid, libraries and schools not funded, and so on. A company may save a bit by outsourcing, the savings going to upper management and a bit to shareholders, but the community loses much, much more.
TB is right. Taxing the wealthy won't make up the difference. That's because the losses are so much greater than the money saved, which is kept by the few anyway.
Some Conservative families have lost the income from one spouse, and survived by refinancing their houses and on the income from the other. They even rely upon Union benefits for medical care and vacations while condemning Unions. Victims of the current economic situation themselves, somehow they cannot see they've been thrown under the bus themselves.
I don't understand it. Blindness.
