Auburn Wins SEC Championship

"Campbell, the game's MVP, did all he could to get the Tigers to Miami. He completed 27-of-35 for 374 yards -- the first 300-yard passing game of his career. He also rushed for 57 yards, setting an SEC championship game record with 431 yards total offense."

That's a QB rating of 189.5 in a real title game folks. The national leader at Louisville has a 185.4. They also scored the fastest ever in the SEC championship series despite often lopsided losses by western division contenders and two national champions playing in the game. I think total offense was also a record, but I can't find documentation on that.

"Auburn had a 14-0 lead before Tennessee made a first down, and the Tigers dominated the first two quarters. Auburn held a 303-39 lead in total yards at the half, was up 17-2 in first downs and had a nearly 13-minute edge in time of possession."

Against a ranked opponant mind you not the patsies OU and USC played. Real easy to loose your edge after half time with that kind of dominance yet this was not mentioned anywhere in post game commentary. Auburn totally Dominated UT statistically in everything but turnovers. Turnovers that deep in your own territory against a good team would cost most teams the game.

By comparison from the box score stats at SI.com USC and OU's "heisman contenders" playing against unranked opponents looked average.

Jason Campbell 27-35 374 3 1 189.5
Jason White 22-29 254 3 2 169.8
Matt Leinart 24-34 242 0 1 124.5

Their teams also came up with less total yardage on offense despite almost no offense from CU in OU's case. USC allowed UCLA to make about the same amount of yardage as UT. AU will remain the number one team in scoring defense.

Mark
