We were fortunate that the forces we were fighting in Afghanistan were not as well-organized as those we are fighting in Iraq, nor as heavily supported by stolen oil wealth, support from Syria and Iran, vast stockpiles of hidden conventional weapons, or were given over half a year to prepare for attack while the U.S. was uselessly trying to convince heavily-bribed holdouts at the United Nations to cooperate.
Still, it's worth noting that the Afghanistan war started well over a year and a half before we invaded Iraq, and the latter war is still less than two years old itself. Maybe that makes some difference, too.
The war in Afghanistan was also labeled a major quagmire, before the war in Iraq became a more convenient target, and while a lot of people have conveniently forgotten the massive opposition to our efforts in Afghanistan back then, including well-publicized anti-war marches all around the world, I haven't.
And no, the war in Afghanistan is not going well just because France is there.
