After falsely promoting USC OU as an instant classic and admitting that the big twelve turns out to be a weak conference they still can't admit they were wrong and that AU should have been in the title game. They play up offense as always and ignore defense. AU had the number 1 scoring defense and an offense averaging only 3.4 points less than USC in a much stronger conference. Those stats weren't padded by wussies out of conference teams either as Auburn used subs early against them. Auburn beat it's average against UT twice. They frequently scored over twenty by halftime against SEC teams. I'm sure AU would have played better that OU. Leinhart would not looked nearly as good against Auburns D. AU also performed far better in the first half against a supposedly vastly improved VT than USC at the start of the season. Have to give TT credit though the win was more important than trying to impress because yet another over rated big twelve team flops in the hyped bowl and Auburn looses any shot. 1983 (11-1 jumped by Miami despite nations toughest schedule by far) and 1993 (11-0 probation but AP eligible) all over again. About every 10 years AU rises to the top of college football and gets shafted.
