10:26 AM EST:
First relayed signal from Huygens Probe via the Cassini mother ship arrives on Earth.
At NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, the data stream from Huygens as relayed
by the Cassini mother ship has begun to arrive on Earth. On schedule.
The first half hour or so is 'dummy data' to allow time for communications
sync. Then the real science data -- in full detail -- pours in.
European Space Agency experts will reveal 'first look' results at a briefing today at 2:30 PM EST.
Meanwhile, as of 10:01 AM this morning, Parkes Radio Observatory in Australia continues
to detect the Huygens beacon on the surface. However, the Cassini mother ship had passed
out of range more than an hour earlier, so any science data in the continuing signal will be
unreadable. However, more than TWO HOURS of data was already safely received, and
nobody expects the additional measurements to have anything new -- except to tell how
long the batteries had 'extra lifetime'.
