When I was in ceramics class, the teacher warned us about pottery "dunting" in the kiln due (if I remember) to firing green pottery that hadn't been dried enough.
The small explosion that cracked the pots sounded just like that, heard from outside the kiln, and I got a kick out it. The word implied a certain kind of explosion, not something spectacular, but the sort of quiet disassembly created by a small firecracker deep inside a watermelon, the noise made by a deep sea fish brought up too rapidly, or a gentle intellectual implosion.
It's just fun to say. "Dunt!"
