There's a difference here. I understand you, and you don't understand me.
You believe this is a zero-sum game, with winners and losers. Black and white. Good guys and bad guys, with your side pure. As Carl Jung said, "The center of all iniquity is 5 km behind enemy lines." In other words, it's all them.
It's not. In this case, there are nothing but losses, with the US having lost the most.
As one matures, they can start to see the world as a series of situations, as a place where everyone thinks their behaviour makes sense.
And it's important to understand why others do what they do. For instance, what would drive a suicide bomber to do it?
What would drive you to do it? Or me?
Understanding that does not imply approval except to folks who have sold their souls to a black and white devil for the sake of a false sense of security.
And they will never understand, because to do so would create unacceptable anxiety. For a while.
