I'm curious about the solid stuff that the surface is made of
How dense is it? How much of is is embedded atmosphere? Is it more like rock or more like styrofoam (vermiculite?)?
A shovel-ful of dirt on earth is filled with N2, O2, and CO2. Remember that there is a lot less gravity and a lot more air-pressure there than here.
