I still use floppies for delta-backups

I never trust the system administrators to backup my machines. At the end of the day, I take home a snap shot of my day's work on a floppy and update a mirror image on my machine at home. Whenever I feel a little bit paranoid, I take a CD-R snap shot of my entire environment and set that aside. It's been years since I last had major data loss due to user error.

People like to sneer at floppies because the technology is so old. However the motherboard directly drives the floppy drive through a separate cable that has nothing to do the IDE and SCSI controllers. If you can't boot your system from a copy of DOS on a floppy then your computer is toast. DOS on a floppy is the last-hope recovery system.
