I bring it up mostly in a specific situation: Every time somebody pipes up with how certain American Christian beliefs are going to lead us all to the "Dark Ages," a theme that permeates this thread, I'm going to fire back with the fact that specific secular beliefs, no more based in reality than a 10,000-year-old-Earth, have done orders of magnitude more human damage than religion has, particularly in recent times.

This is particularly appropriate in that there is a large number of Americans out there (not so much here) who get bent out of shape about religion violating their freedoms, but who have spent much of their lives supporting and/or apologizing for Marxist regimes and Marxist regime wannabes like the Sandinistas. The hypocrisy is glaring enough to require eclipse glasses.
