There is no logic in lifitng such a piece of equipment into orbit, delayed by bad optics and Challenger's explosion, then driving it back intot he atmosphere, destroyed. Like buying a brand new Chevy, driving from NYC to Cal, stopping along the way to sightsee then running it off a cliff into the Pacific Ocean when you reach Cal. Nope, car got more use left in it, with repairs, of course. Who knows what tech will come online in next 10-15 yrs, automated service satts? New, cheep, safe manned vehicles that can visit Hubble for repairs? Automated space tugs that retrieve the Hubble for upgrades then deploy it back to proper position. Naw, the only thing we're giving up is logic , where in this throw away society it's more cost effective to destroy than to re-hab.

Not give up projects, mothball/rehab special ones
