Space/Science » in reply to Griffin has the resume

nice to see him smiling - he used to suffer terribly from allergies

his nose was red all the time - my guess is that relief came from one of the new non-anti-histamine allergy blockers

now to the bottom line. Griffin understands the impact hazard, but is probably unaware of cometary impact hazard, and how handled within NASA - he sees Moon systems as a stepping stone to Mars, does not yet understand impact mitigation technical requirements using lunar resources -

strangely, Griffin does not see space station as stepping stone to Moon - has international experience, but does not fully accept the concept that manned space exploration will have to be international because of costs -

also, probably still harbors illusions as to how earth-like Mars is, and thus how useful it might be -does not appear to have considered back contamination problem as show stopper, and it may well be -

main problem is costs - remembering back to Truly and the 90 day study, the architecture was too expensive - and if the Moon is used to develop hardware for Mars systems, if will be priced out of reach -

shuttle to HLV conversion has political support, but does the US have enough money left to indulge in a HLV system that has limited commercial and defense uses?

It looks like a pretty good choice by the President - I can't think of anyone better, let's pray Griffin's up to the difficult job ahead -
