I'm betting these are calibration images. The image with 'static' looks like a dark frame that has been brightness stretched, and the image with the vertical lines might be a smear frame. Both are steps in the calibration procedure they use for Pancam and probably need updating every so often to keep them inline with the condition of the CCD.
