Current Events » in reply to Terri's parents: Why does it have to be about *them*?

"Whose body is it?" Sounds like something Ayn Rand would write

Why indeed.

Because the parents still feel, physically and emotionally. According to the right-to-die camp, Terri does not. Cannot. Will not. Ever. She is a corpse on life support.

Yes, if Terri feels nothing, knows nothing, thinks nothing, and is already as good as dead, what harm is there having her parents tend to her functioning body if they are willing? Terri is in no position to object, feel aggrieved, experience heartbreak or scream in silence at the "outrage" of her alleged wishes being ignored.

Assuming the right-to-die position, the personality, the mind, the essence of Terri has already gone. Long gone. It makes no difference now from Terri's point of view if indeed "it's supposed to be about her", because she has no point of view. Therefore, I think a pragmatic, not dogmatic, approach is advised, and I would be err on the side of life.

In reality, this situation affects others, and is not just about her.
