TOM: "Please stifle the "thirty judges" routine."
MY REPLY: No. What do you think the appellate and supreme courts do?!? They examine the record created by the trial court. Part of that includes determining whether the trial court judge had enough evidence to arrive at his or her conclusion. Appeals aren't just about procedure. They are also about sufficiency of the facts and the efficacy of the record with respect to the conclusions and application of law.
By the way, Judge Greer wasn't the only trial court judge who examined this case. Judge Douglas Baird, a state circuit court judge on the same bench as Greer, also held trial in the Schiavo matter. His decisions, also were appealed and sustained through the Florida courts and up to the U.S. Supreme Court. And Federal Court Judge James Whittemore is also a trial court judge.
You didn't read the 30,000 pages of documented evidence. You didn't sit through weeks of trial. You didn't hear what the witnesses and experts had to say. You may not like what the judges concluded, but you are in no position to judge yourself.
By the way, Dr, Jay Wolfson, the guardian ad litem appointed by Florida Governor Jeb Bush to independently represent Ms. Schiavo's interests did review those 30,000 pages. He also spent almost 100 hours examining her. He arrived at the same conclusions the trial court. He also found that the evidence clearly supported that Terri would not have wanted to have been kept alive in her current condition.
