re: "amateur astronomer"
Not a C11 but an older C8 which I haven't been using much lately. Gotta get out and do some spring galaxy hunting.
While in Tortola, BVI the 1st-2nd week of March, I was easily able to observe Mercury after the sunset via naked eye. Pointed it out to patrons at the restaurant. It's fun to see the cold 'winter' constellations like Orion and Canis Major when walking on the beach after dinner and several coctail hour painkillers. Saw Canopus, and the Argo, Vela area. My buddy who rented a sailboat docked where he had a perfect horizon view and says he saw the Southern Cross later at night. I've never seen it. The night I stayed on his sailboat, I slept out on the deck. It rained.
