Commmon sense should make it obvious that when you claim a mandate for all your party's platform issues in a slim victory when polls clearly show that only a few of them motivated your victory - pursuing the rest ruthlessly or ones that stimulated little interest will not win you popularity. I happen to agree with privatizing social security and am rather irritated that former bipartisan support for it has evaporated in a knee jerk oppose Bush on everything reaction. However, Making that and the Schiavo case top priorities show a disconnect from the concern most people have about a still struggling economy when it comes to domestic issues.
