re: Loss of technology is a real danger

"I'm doing a poor job of making this convincing but the loss of basic aerospace technology is happening right now. The American aerospace industry will not spend a penny to preserve basic aerospace technology for future use. They'll invest money on a technology only as long as they have a paying customer. The moment that customer disappears, the aerospace companies layoff the specialized engineers and toss the documentation into the dumpster. "

Don't all I have to say is Saturn V?
Why can't Gary preserve what he thinks is important? Or do the govt rules that get in the way of doing this?
For people technology is an asset which is treasured, for govt it's merely another expense.
No govt has ever preserved any technology, why expect them to do this new trick? People preserve technology and have been doing it for tens of thousands of years.
