re: Building Straw People?

"Anyway, I think Geoff was trying to say if guy has one good idea all other ideas by him must also be good. "

No, that not what I meant.
I actually was kind of wondering what you meant by: "The Moonbats claim it's economical to do the filling station idea and have peer reviewed papers by Dr. Michael Duke to prove it."
So I searched " "Dr. Michael Duke" and what I posted was one of the search results. But I didn't find this peer reviewed paper.
Now, I didn't look that throughly but I was wondering what exactly you were referring to and thought perhaps you you were referring to an anlysis discuss rather recently.

Now that I look at it, I guessed you were referring to: "Space Resource Economic Analysis Toolkit:
The Case for Commercial Lunar Ice Mining"

Brad R. Blair, Javier Diaz, Michael B. Duke,
Center for the Commercial Applications of Combustion in Space, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado
Elisabeth Lamassoure, Robert Easter,
Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California
Mark Oderman, Marc Vaucher
CSP Associates, Inc., Cambridge, Massachusetts
Final Report to the NASA Exploration Team,
December 20, 2002

I don't have a link handy but I did have a copy the PDF.
Anyway if this is the paper, I think it's helpful paper. But as I said over at "The Space Arena Board" { http://www.space-frontier.org/Boards/MoonBase/ }. because they needed a existing market for a comparison, it based the study at selling Lunar water at LEO for the GEO market. If there was a market for water in space and if this market is in LEO, then I think it's unlikely that lunar water could compete against water shipped from Earth to LEO [unlike L-1].
As I have explained before it is because I realized years ago that I came up with my idea of "Water in Orbit"- which would be a govt program which buys water test payloads which are shipped from Earth to LEO [and even to L-1]. This has many advantages and one the advantages is it could start the first market in space [and provide an incentive for private company to build the infrastructure needed to process the water into rocket fuel].
