Actually there's prospects for hand-held MRI scanners on the horizon. With sufficient resolution individual neurones will be locatable and a digital copy of your brain generated fairly straight-forwardly. Of course whether you'd appreciate having your copy go in your place is another question. If Sony's direct brain stimulator works well enough (and safely!) then it may be possible to fuse the two representations of you once the copy beams back from interstellar space.

Hmmm... easier said than done.
