Current Events » in reply to Good News From Iraq, Part 26

Y'know those big, lavish Hollywood weddings?

They don't necessarily make a marriage. But they sure create an illusion of eternal love and bliss.

Voting (called "election") and inauguration do not make a government which can rule a country, much less a democracy. It's easy to confuse the two, but one is show, the other is the long haul.

Afghanistan is a recent model of voting and inaugurations not making a viable government.

But it's been ALL good news from Iraq, according to the DoD, Dick Cheney said the US would be welcomed with open arms, and George Bush declared "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED".

But how come people are still dying,

people in THE CAPITAL don't have power more than a few hours a day,

don't have potable water,

the road from the Baghdad Airport to the safety of the Green Zone (a very small part of Baghdad) is arguably the most dangerous in the world,

planes landing at Baghdad still get shot at, and so on.

How can these conditions exist in the face of such unrelenting good news?
