Where were you when Democratic candidates were making the rounds of the churches and quoting the Bible during the campaign?
Quietly embarrassed, and (even more quietly) wondering how the rhetoric might have gone if Lieberman had lasted longer into the campaign...
I can point to as many Congressmen in the House supporting socialism in America as you can to Congressmen supporting a real theocracy. Until the numbers of such extremists gets out of the single digits, I wouldn't worry about it.
Thus, begging the real question. It's not the Congressmen (or Senators, for that matter), it's the people who elect them that I'm concerned with. The same people who (in Kansas, for merely one example) are trying to establish "back door theocracy" with their faith-based assault on the teaching of evolution... and the same people who organized Frist's simulcast.
On the other hand, it's the Congressional leadership being discussed in this thread. Here's an interesting transcript -- which I will not cherry-pick, though I expect to hear scoffing about the source. The good news is: I hear that moderate Republicans are feeling reluctance to march in lockstep with the Administration, as they have re-election to consider only a year and a half away.

- So many lies, so much spin...
- You want to pick judges, win some elections.
- Let's keep the marrow of my bones out of this (ick)
- So if one's party doesn't win an election, one loses all rights?
- Yes, and since the last election, all Democrats have been rounded up
- Not at all. But only the PRESIDENT nominates Federal judges.
- You know, the "looming theocracy" crap got old about two years into Reagan's first term.
- You want to pick judges, win some elections.
